Juwel Rana, Editor-in-Chief

Juwel Rana is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology with a concentration in Environmental Epidemiology. His doctoral research focuses on developing a new mixture method and applying it to estimate the causal joint effects of time-varying environmental pollutant mixtures on human health. In addition to environmental mixture and health, he has interests and experiences in global environmental health, disparities in environmental health, the burden of NCDs, machine learning, causal inference, and epidemiologic methods. Juwel established the Bangladesh Longitudinal Child-Adolescent Development, Education, and Environment Study (BLADES), which encompasses approximately 2,000 households in Dhaka and Dinajpur districts. He is passionate about critical and equitable engagement with global environmental health research and promoting equity across the social and environmental determinants of health and well-being.

Omotayo Olaoye, Executive Editor

Omotayo Olaoye is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at McGill University, specializing in pharmacoepidemiology. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a Master’s in Public Health. With over seven years of experience spanning clinical practice, research, and academia, she previously worked as a hospital and community pharmacist in Nigeria before contributing to national and global antimicrobial resistance programs with the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association and the Scottish Government. A recipient of prestigious awards, including the Vanier Scholarship, FRQS, and the UK Government’s Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships, Omotayo has authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented her research extensively.

Toufica Sultana, Associate  Editor

Toufica Sultana, a PhD student in Family Medicine at McGill University, co-founded the South Asian Institute for Social Transformation (SAIST) and has contributed as a lecturer (on leave) at Eastern University, Dhaka. She has taught Sociology and Sustainable Development courses at institutions such as North South University and City University. Her research journey began at BRAC's Research and Evaluation Division, where she collaborated with institutions like McGill and Toronto Metropolitan University. Her current work focuses on maternal education, labor policies, child supervision in LMICs, and mental health service utilization in Canada.

Karen Wassef, Associate Editor

Karen is a PhD student in the Department of Family Medicine. She is interested in quality improvement research in the context of non-communicable diseases and serious illness. Her research focuses on understanding the social and healthcare experiences of people from racialized and marginalized communities in Canada. Her current work aims to foster person- and relationship-centered care to improve the quality and equity of primary care services.

Nina Anastasia Zevgolis, Copy Editor

Nina is an Honours Environment student passionate about medical entomology and infectious disease. Specializing in the ecological determinants of health, her summer research will focus on quantifying heat-related deaths on the island of Montreal. With experience as a journalist and in various editorial leadership roles, Nina is dedicated to science communication. Through her work with MGH this term, she looks forward to learning from her colleagues and your submissions!

Tarini Jayaprakash, Copy Editor

Tarini Jayaprakash is an MSc Public Health student passionate about advancing child health and addressing health inequities. Her work focuses on combating child malnutrition and promoting sustainable solutions for vulnerable communities. She is also actively involved in research projects aimed at developing guidelines for conducting research with South Asian populations, ensuring cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. Through her academic and community-based initiatives, Tarini strives to create meaningful change in health outcomes for underserved populations, contributing to a future where equitable access to health and well-being is a universal reality.

Vincent Wong, Outreach Editor

Vincent is an Honours Neuroscience student with a passion for global health. His interests are in circumpolar health, Indigenous health, and healthcare access. Vincent has experience in community-based health research, particularly with Inuit communities in the Northwest Territories. He is eager to broaden his understanding of health equity and global health research through his involvement with MJGH this year. Outside work, Vincent enjoys rock climbing with friends, playing the guitar, and repairing bicycles.

Maira Corinne Claudio, Outreach Editor

Maira is in her second year of the Master of Science in Public Health program. Her primary area of interest is in global and public health ethics and understanding the health consequences that public health policies may impose on marginalized populations. Her interest in global health stems from her passion for advancing health equity through an interdisciplinary lens. Maira has been actively involved in research projects on digital health, childhood ethics, and the application of intersectionality as a critical social theory to explore precarious employment as a social determinant of health.  Outside school, she loves making Spotify playlists, binge-watching Smallville, and watching Formula 1.

Evelyn Rogan, Design Editor 

Evelyn Rogan (she/her) is a BSc Environmental Science student passionate about multidisciplinary and community-driven research within the intersection of environment and health. She would like to continue to expand her knowledge in climate-resilient agricultural production, environmental contamination and health, and socio-environmental justice in Canada and abroad. She is focused on knowledge co-production in scientific research and using visual illustrations to increase the accessibility of scientific communications. Fun facts about Evelyn include her love for coffee, MTL cafes, ultimate frisbee, reading, and dance nights with friends! She also enjoys drawing and painting and often creates art inspired by her travels and reflections.
